Three-row crossover began to sell in Australia. Later the model will appear in other markets.
Crossover Mazda CX-8 debuted in Japan last year. Initially, Mazda positioned it as a model intended only for the home market, as the flagship seven-seater CX-9 became the “donor” for the new crossover, which is not represented in Japan, although it is produced in the homeland of the brand. In early 2018 it became known that the company changed its decision: the G8 was announced for Australia. Now, on the Green Continent, sales of new items started.
Interestingly, the Australians are also available CX-9. Mazda CX-8 is positioned on the step below, in addition, this cross is more compact. The length of the CX-8 is 4,900 mm, the width is 1,840 mm, and the height is 1,730 mm. Dimensions CX-9: 5 065/1 961/1 747 mm. But the wheelbase of the models is the same – 2 930 mm.
As in Japan, in Australia Mazda CX-8 is offered only with Skyactiv-D 2.2 diesel engine with 190 hp. (450 Nm), which works in tandem with a six-speed automatic transmission. Drive – front or full. CX-9 in the Australian market can only be purchased with a gasoline engine Skyactiv-G 2.5 (231 hp, 420 Nm), the flagship crossover is also represented in the versions of FWD and AWD.
The design of the Australian CX-8 is the same as that of the Japanese version, and the list of equipment is similar. The only difference is that in Australia the CX-8 is sold only with a seven-seater saloon, while in Japan the cross-country still has a six-seat variant. For the Mazda CX-8 there are: 17- or 19-inch disks, LED optics, round-robin cameras, road sign recognition systems, automatic braking, exit warning, blind spots monitoring, three-zone climate control, and the G-Vectoring Control (GVC) system, which redistributes the torque applied to the leading front wheels in different phases of the motion.
The difference in prices between the CX-8 and CX-9 is not so great: the CX-8 costs from 42,490 to 61,490 Australian dollars, and the Mazda CX-9 will cost 43,890 – 64,790 local dollars.
One of Australia’s exports of the new crossover will not be limited: very soon the model will appear in China (SH-9 is not sold there). It is possible that later the list of countries will be expanded.
