Concern General Motors intends to start producing premium electric cars, which will be sold under the brand name Cadillac

Concern General Motors is going to start producing premium electric cars, which will be sold under the brand Cadillac. Such cars will be able to compete with Tesla electric vehicles, as well as the “green” models of Mercedes-Benz and Audi brands. Reported by Reuters.

The Cadillac electric vehicle will be based on the new generation BEV architecture, specially designed for vehicles with fully electric power plants. It is assumed that the new product will appear in 2021 and will subsequently become a “base” for nine more “green” models – from a compact SUV to a seven-seater luxury crossover and a large commercial van.

Earlier, the Cadillac brand produced only plug-in hybrids: the compact ELR sedan and the Plug-In modification of the flagship CT6. However, both models did not enjoy sufficient popularity.

At the same time, General Motors has extensive experience in the development of electric cars. For example, the “green” Chevrolet Volt appeared before the Tesla Model S entered the market, and the relatively affordable electric car, the Chevrolet Bolt, began to be sold long before the release of the Tesla Model 3.

Earlier, the head of General Motors Mary Barra said that by 2026 the concern intends to sell about one million electric cars annually. It is assumed that GM’s plans for the electrification of “Cadillac” will be announced soon.
