BMW, Peugeot and Ford have taught machines to communicate with each other

The association of the 5G Automotive Association with the support of the BMW Group, Ford and PSA held the first demonstration of the communication system between vehicles of different brands and road infrastructure. The technology, called C-V2X, will be put into commercial operation in 2020.

Two BMW electric scooters, as well as Ford, DS, BMW and Peugeot cars participated in the demonstration races. All vehicles were equipped with communication modules based on the Qualcomm 9150 chipset.

During the demonstration, the work of the electronic stop lamp, the warning function about the possibility of a collision at an intersection, with a turn, notifications of slowly moving or stopped cars, as well as a warning function for pedestrians were shown. It is noted that the C-V2X can work even outside the coverage area of the cellular network.

The 5G Automotive Association (5GAA) includes more than 90 companies. They are automakers, large suppliers of spare parts and components, software developers, semiconductor manufacturers, telecommunications equipment suppliers and road maintenance firms. The main goal of the organization is the development and standardization of communication solutions in the field of transport.
