Former ambulance driver drove the track in 1 minute 46.58 seconds

The blind driver drove behind the wheel of a Toyota GT86 a circle of the Top Gear test track in 1 minute 46.58 seconds. This has become one of the best results of the transfer. The video about this was published on its YouTube channel by the British division of Toyota.

On the coupe Toyota GT86, which participated in the Top Gear heading “Star in a budget car”, they offered to drive Dr. Amit Patel. Before losing his sight, he worked as an ambulance driver, but after 2013 he never got behind the wheel. To race on the track, Patel did not choose a sports car with an automatic transmission, preferring the usual six-speed “mechanics”.

For the race, Patel was trained by sports driving instructor Mark Watkins, who already had experience working with blind drivers on race tracks. First, the training took place on the Yaris hatchback, and then continued on the “frame” Toyota GT86.

During the final race, Watkins was in the passenger seat, prompting Patel for the trajectory, braking and acceleration points. Among all the participants in the “Star in a Budget Car” column, Patel eventually showed the ninth result.

At the beginning of this year, a blind driver behind the wheel of a Honda NSX was able to accelerate to 244 kilometers per hour. At the same time, the world record for blind drivers is 308.78 kilometers per hour.
