In the US, drag racing is very popular, and this time the Americans decided to compare the dynamics of some of the fastest cars in the world, which have completely different power plants.
The race was created for the sprint races Dodge Demon and electric Tesla Model S in the fastest modification P100D. The video of the arrival appeared on YouTube-channel Dragtimes.
Judging by the video, two cars stand each other, and at a distance of ¼ mile they show almost the same time. Despite the fact that the race was held on a professional track for drag racing, the rear-wheel drive Dodge Demon with an 840-horsepower engine still loses the start of the all-wheel drive electric car, whose engines transfer 588 horsepower to the wheels. Nevertheless, the maskload on the quater mile is still faster, showing a time of 10.4 seconds, while Tesla passes this distance in 10.8 seconds.
It is also noteworthy that up to 100 kilometers per hour the Dodge Demon accelerates in 2.49 seconds, which is somewhat slower than indicated in the official characteristics of the model (2.3 seconds). But Tesla, apparently, meets its characteristics completely: according to official data, the car can accelerate to 100 kilometers per hour in 2.5 seconds. We can also assume that on the public roads Tesla thanks to the full drive will accelerate faster than the American oil car, because the level of grip on ordinary asphalt is lower than on the track for drag racing.
