The prototype of Azaris is equipped with a unique suspension and motorcycle engine.
The Australian company Ferox Advanced Vehicles Corporation has built a working prototype of an off-road vehicle with wheel drive from liquid engines. They are driven by the BMW gasoline opposite engine from the 1200 GS motorcycle.
In total, Azaris has four such engines. They are installed along the edges of the rear suspension balancer and are connected to a pump that pumps liquid through them 95% water. A motorcycle engine is directly connected to the pump. However, Ferox calls this solution a temporary solution and plan to use an electric motor in the future.
The design of the Ferox motors is quite simple: a liquid is pumped into each one, which spins the blades and the external motor housing under pressure. He, in turn, sets in motion the wheel. According to Ferox engineers, hydromotor efficiency can be up to 98 percent. Each of them weighs 11.3 kilograms and is theoretically capable of producing up to 680 Nm of torque.
By analogy with electric motors, Azaris implements thrust vector control (Fluid Vectoring) by changing the direction of fluid flow. In addition, thanks to the fluid vectoring, the hydraulic motors also act as brakes. The next step will be the development of batteries for energy recovery systems. The creators of the car also note that due to the special balancing suspension, it literally slides along the road, without impacts and vibrations typical of traditional designs.
Most of the components, including the main levers, are developed by Ferox’s own efforts. They are hidden hoses coaxial design, in which the liquid under high pressure passes through the inner section, and low – through the outer.
The company assures that this is an early example of the implementation of promising technology. And now the efforts of engineers are more focused on the reliability of the entire system, rather than technical characteristics.
In addition, Ferox plans to launch Azaris in small-scale production. It will be a collectible car, more like an art object. Price – about 500 thousand Australian dollars.
