A presentation of the new Audi A6 was held at the Geneva Motor Show. The eighth generation of the sedan differs greatly from its predecessor both externally and internally. The model became 7 mm longer (4,939 mm), 12 mm wider (1,886 mm) and 2 mm higher (1,457 mm). The sedan is built on the MLB EVO platform, like all new Audi models.
The car is not at all like its predecessor. The A6 has a powerful, aggressive front, and the front lighting line is made in such a way that it seems as if the car is always looking at the road. The car has wide, convex wheel arches. The wheels themselves are larger than those of the previous generation. In the simplest configuration, the disks are 17-inch, top-mounted – 21-inch, but, perhaps, in the S-line package, even 22-inch will appear.
Separately Andreas Mindt – head of the exterior design department of Audi – at the presentation noted the taillights of the novelty. He said that he and the team were very anxious to make the rear part of the car look solid, not split boot lid. Therefore, vertical diodes were built in the lanterns, which, as the designers assure, completely solved this problem. From a distance it seems that a small gap from the trunk lid is just another diode.
In Ingolstadt it is said that the launch of a fully autonomous vehicle will take some time, as the world must come to a single solution in legal aspects. However, Audi A6 has already received a number of systems that help the driver: autonomous parking, leaving and arriving from the garage, helping to save the strip and so on. There is also a set of sensors (depending on the configuration, they can be up to 12), sensors and a laser scanner.
Inside the machine has also changed dramatically. It is similar to the A8 – only the displays inside are more turned towards the driver, which emphasizes that this car is designed for the one who sits behind the wheel. Inside, almost all physical buttons disappeared, there were only four of them – basically all touch controls.
For the business sedan four types of suspension were prepared: from the most usual to the pneumatic. Between these two options – sports suspension and suspension with adjustable stiffness of shock absorbers. The engine in the first stage will also be four: one TFSI and four TDI. Power of power units – from 204 to 340 hp, and the maximum torque – from 400 to 620 Nm. Gasoline 3.0-liter engine allows the novelty to accelerate to a maximum speed of 250 km / h, the Germans do not yet disclose the acceleration figures to 100 km / h.
Three-liter diesel units are paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission, while a 2.0-liter engine on “heavy” fuel and a gasoline engine are equipped with a seven-speed automatic S tronic. In combination with the latter, the all-wheel drive works in such a way that the rear axle is connected when necessary.
