At the Geneva Motor Show, which was held this year, Toyota introduced a restyled version of the compact hatch Aygo. Our colleagues got the opportunity to test the novelty, adding about her first impressions.
Noted that the three-cylinder engine volume per liter, despite the improvements made in comparison with its predecessor, remained “riding”. At low speeds, its power is not enough at all, and at its high returns is not enough to confidently overtake even in the urban stream. On the track it is not enough, and it’s better to forget about overtaking on this car completely. On idle it works quietly, but under load it can be heard clearly, also some drivers can irritate the short stroke of the clutch pedal.
The machine also does not make noise-proof: the sound effect from the road and wind is clearly present in the cabin. The suspension of the hatchback isolates the interior well from the unevenness of the road surface, but the high center of gravity leads to tangible heels in the corners.
The hatch’s saloon received new panels that do not tread when driving at cruising speeds.
On the road, the Japanese hatchback feels confident: there is no question of controllability of the Yaris GRMN or GT86, but the steering is well balanced, it’s sharp, and has, though not very pronounced, feedback.
Inside, the Toyota Aygo is similar to the Fiat 500, but the dashboard screen looks very cheap, and does not inspire at all. Do not be pleased and the materials of the finish: the salon resembles a box trimmed with cheap plastic. But the multimedia system, which was developed by Pioneer, will be pleased with the support of smartphones based on iOS and Android. Front seats are comfortable and provide good side support.
The back row is worse: there will not be enough room for anyone that has outgrown Pokemon. In the trunk little can be put: its volume is 168 liters, and this is almost 100 liters less than the Volkswagen Up or Kia Picanto. The sound of closing doors does not inspire confidence.
On the move, Aygo is quite good at a speed of 110 kilometers per hour, and this machine, in general, is suitable for travel, but only if you do not sit on the back row.
However, if the shortcomings are not embarrassing, the hatchback will be pleased with the excellent economy: in a mixed cycle, the colleagues recorded a result of 4.4 liters per 100 km, in urban traffic consumption is also small – 5.2 liters per 100 kilometers.
